M.G. Design & Building have designed & constructed over 300 residential and commercial developments in the Geelong, Bellarine Peninsula and Surfcoast regions. Major design and construct projects in the commercial sector have been for Rip Curl and Quiksilver in both Torquay and Sydney.
Residential work includes single residences, townhouses and other multi dwelling projects, as well as designing and project managing residences on the Mornington Peninsula, as well as at Sunshine Beach and Buderim on the Sunshine Coast - Queensland and Tatura in Nth - East Victoria.
The majority of our housing projects are in the coastal areas of Torquay, Anglesea and along the Great Ocean Rd to Lorne.
A number of our projects have been featured in industry related journals as well as ‘Home Beautiful', ‘Top Homes' magazine, ‘Winning Design' magazine, 'Abode' magazine and the book Australia's Best Houses.
Being a member of both ‘The Housing Industry Association' and ‘Building Designers Association of Victoria', we are constantly updating our ideas and philosophy in relation to the latest technology and innovation in many areas of the design and building industry, including ‘cost effective' methods of construction and ‘energy efficiency'.
In relation to designing dwellings that adhere to local planning regulations and guidelines, M.G. Design & Building has been designing homes in numerous areas of the Surfcoast Shire for over 12 years. We have always been aware of and sensitive to, the requirements of the particular Planning Schemes that relate to the various areas and in many cases to a particular sub-division / development.
In the Surfcoast Shire alone there are the following different planning guidelines:
Surfcoast Planning Scheme - with it's numerous overlays including Vegetation Protection, Significant Landscape and Wildfire Management overlays in many areas.
Surfcoast Design Policy - relating to preferred styles of design, including building form and colors.
Ocean Acres Design Guidelines - a design document specific to an area subdivided into minimum 1 acre allotments a short distance out of Torquay.
The Sands, Torquay - Building & Environmental Management Code - specific to The Sands Golf Course development.
The Quay Design Guidelines - a design document relating to a new sub-division currently being developed on the north-east fringe of Torquay township.
Each document has it's own unique set of guidelines, all attempting to make the experience of building and living on the Surfcoast a positive one in the long term for this generation as well as future generations. M.G. Design & Building has extensive experience working in conjunction with these documents and on many occasions with the planners who oversee their implementation. We have always been able to design homes and on a number of occasions large commercial developments within the surf industry, that have abided by and complimented these guidelines. A number of the more recent documents that have been introduced have used key elements of our designs and completed homes as examples of the positive outcomes achievable, in relation to areas such as Streetscape and Frontage, Amenity Impact and Detailed Building Form, including roof lines and building materials.
It is our endeavour to make the design process as smooth and trouble free as possible, although at the same time designing a home that we see benefiting yourselves on your property, now and in the long term.
